These are some incredible resources that have impacted my faith as a single mom.


Flatirons Community Church has helped change my life with their “Me Too” environment. They welcome and accept everyone who is lost and broken and spread the message of God’s mercy and grace.  They are local to Colorado but post their weekly services to their website for worldwide viewing.


The Bridge Center for Play Therapy has given me and my girls invaluable skills and tools to help us accept our circumstances, face our emotions, and connect more with ourselves and each other.  They work with children and adults and offer online resources as well as counseling services.


Girls Leadership empowers girls of all ages to find their voice and develop the skills and confidence to become leaders.  I attended the 2nd- and 3rd-grade workshops with my older daughter, and she learned a lot about friendship and speaking up for herself.  They offer workshops, camps, parent education, a book club, as well as online resources.


Brene Brown is my absolute favorite author and speaker.  She researches courage, vulnerability, shame, and empathy and has written four amazing books (I have read each one at least twice!).  She has been a guide through my own growth and healing.  She also has a TED Talk called the Power of Vulnerability.  I highly recommend watching it!


Love Warrior is a must read!  Glennon Doyle tells her own story of hurt and healing in her memoir and reminded me that I am not alone in my struggles.  I couldn’t put it down and have been inspired to start writing my own memoir.  She also has a blog and non-profit to support families around the world.


Elaine Aron is the expert on the highly sensitive person and has written several books on the topic.  I have learned so much about myself and my younger daughter from her research and finally understand some of our traits that used to frustrate me.  You can take a quiz to find out if you or your child is highly sensitive.


Susan Cain is the author of Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking and Quiet Power: The Secret Strengths of Introverted Kids.  I am learning a lot about myself as an introvert from her Quiet Revolution website.


Yoga with Adriene is my favorite at-home yoga practice.  Finding the time and money to take a class is challenging as a single mom, so I do it from the comfort of my home while my kids play in their room!


Kristen Race wrote the book Mindful Parenting and has used brain-research to develop mindfulness programs for parents and teachers.  I love the simple solutions she offers to help slow down and manage stress better.  I use her mindfulness strategies both in my classroom and at home with my girls.
